Sally Lieber - Recall Sally Lieber in 2002

Q&A

Note:  If you have other questions, please submit them.  The general interest ones will be posted and the specific ones will be answered asap.  We are being overwhelmed by interest from concerned and caring citizens who wish to have Vice Mayor Lieber removed from office so please be patient.

Q.  Why recall Vice Mayor Lieber? Why not just wait until the next election and vote against her?

A.  We believe it is important for Mountain View that Vice Mayor Lieber is recalled.  She has violated the city charter and acted in unethical ways that undermine the credibility of our city.  We cannot afford for her to continue to cause problems for the rest of her term. The Vice Mayor has said that this recall seems politically motivated.  Many in the community are dissatisfied with her unethical political actions.   For the betterment of Mountain View, she needs to be removed from office before more damage is done.

Q.  Why are you opposed to her becoming mayor?

A.  It is beginning to appear that her agenda seems to be to use her role in Mountain View as a stepping stone for her political career and election to the Assembly.  We are concerned that the only way she can run an effective campaign for the Assembly is by continuing to sacrifice her obligations to this community.

Q.  How do I know if the reasons for the recall are valid?

A. We have validated the reasons listed in the notice of recall.  We have also had legal review of our notice.  If you have substantiated allegations that you believe are relevant, contact us at www.recallsallylieber.org/

Q.  What other allegations do you have?

A.   Additional allegations are currently being researched and validated.  We will post more information as it becomes available.

Q.  Why didn’t you get the right number of signatures for the notice of recall?

A.  We used the instructions from the County Registrar of Voters that indicated we needed 10 signatures.  We learned when we submitted the paperwork to the City Clerk of Mountain View that Mountain View requires 20 signatures.  We have since obtained more than the required number.

Q.  How does a recall work?

A.  Given the number of registered voters in Mountain View, we have 120 days after the paperwork is officially filed to gather approximately 7,600 signatures, which is about 20% of the registered voters. Our goal is to get the signatures in less time.  Then there will be an election whereby voters can vote to recall her and then chose a replacement for her role on the council.  If each one of you helps us to get 10 signatures – we can complete this in 5 weeks.

Q.  There’s some speculation this recall has to do with people who want to help Mayor Ambra.

A.  This recall has nothing to do with Mayor Ambra.  This website was created in October of 2001, well before any news of the charges against the Mayor were made public.

Q.  How can people sign a copy of the petition?

A.  Click the button on the website to sign a petition and leave your name and address and one of our volunteers will follow up with you.
